Beacy girls take out the day!

Congratulations to our Grade 6 Beaconsfield girls for winning the District and Division flags today at the girls AFL day.

The girls played 5 games, remaining undefeated. The girls showed amazing resilience through a couple of come from behind victories, however they saved their best for the grand final running out 3 goal winners.

The girls ran all day and were the hardest at the ball, displaying tremendous skills and proper tackling technique in wet and muddy conditions.

A special shout out to Shayla who was named player of the day by the umpire.

The girls should be very proud of their efforts just as I was, as well as the parents that attended. An awesome day capped off with an awesome result! Bring on Regionals!

Fun day full of flags!

Today our Beacy Lightning Prem teams competed in football, netball, soccer and softball. The kids played with great spirit, resilience and sportsmanship and achieved some fantastic results along the way.

Congratulations to the girls netball, boys football, girls soccer and boys softball who all won and advanced to the Division finals.

All the teachers were very proud! Thanks to the parents who helped and supported on the day.

Blog Question
Using the letters of the alphabet A – Z, try to find a country for each letter. Example A – Australia. There may be some letters that you won’t be able to find a country for, let us know which ones these are too.

Problem Solving
1. A ‘new’ vegetable has been created called CAULINI. It is a hybrid (a mixture) of cauliflower and broccolini. How many letters is ‘cauliflower and broccolini’ are NOT in CAULINI?

2. One supermarket has a special offer this week on pork chops. They have reduced the usual price of the chops from $16 per kilogram, by $4 per kilogram. What is their special price per kilogram for the chops?

3. How much rent does a Bunnings store pay per week? Have a guess! Then do a calculation: a new Bunnings store opening in Queensland ACTUALLY pays $880,000 per year to rent the “big box” store. How much is that per month? How much per week? How good was your guess?

4.  A very special CHESS PIECE from the Viking era is being put on sale at an auction. The expected price range is somewhere between $670,000 and $1.26 million. What is the MIDPOINT of that range? And what is the RANGE of possible prices?

Last homework for the Term, YAY!

Lightning Prem Overdue Money

Today some students received a permission note for the Lightning Prem. If you received this note, can you please double check that you paid by the due date. If you have not paid could you then please sign the permission note and bring the $15.00 tomorrow!!

Sometimes there is a delay with QKR, so if you know you have definitely paid, then please ignore the permission note that was sent home. This is just to ensure that all students selected in a Lightning Prem team don’t miss out on the opportunity to play.

Grade 6 Swimming Reminder

Just a quick reminder that permission for the Grade 6 Swimming Program is due on Thursday the 20th June 2019. We expect all students to attend, to try to gain their Victorian Swim Certificate.
Paul Sadler Swimland is a great facility, and although it may be winter, students will be in a  safe and comfortable environment. Due to pool availability and fitting in with our busy school curriculum, this was one of our only options.
Please go onto QKR to give permission for your child to attend. If you do not wish your child to participate, you need to speak to Miss Backman.

Thank you.

Blog Question
Over the long weekend show an act of kindness in some way at home by helping your family. This could include stacking or unstacking the dishwasher, hanging out the washing, feeding the animals, helping to cook dinner with your parents etc.

There will be no maths problem solving this week. Homework will just be reading (150 minutes Grade 6 and 100 minutes Grade 5) and the blog question. Have a great long weekend every one!
